This workshop will explore the legendary Hawai'ian folklore figure Madame Pele: the volcano in a discussion of self-definition and women's identities as creators. The vehicle for this exploration will be a one-hour Hula session as participants experience first hand the creative force of Pele embodied in ancient chants and Hula practices. - Get Yo Sh*t Together Gurrl! This workshop addresses finding your talents, accepting your God-given beauty and reaffirming your power as an individual and as a woman. - L.O.V.E.: Letting Our Voices Express: Using our erotic powers to create and perform poems & songs anywhere... (Tilden Room)

Using Audre Lorde's inspirational essay "The Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic As Power", we will conjure an elixir of words, voices, and ideas to channel our natural erotic creative senses as a way to effectively empower ourselves and others to resist and confront the racism and sexism we face in our everyday lives. Through three poetic writing, movement, and song prompts, we will take up space and allow our fierce expressions to flow. We will utilize the tools of collective brainstorms and discussion and end by sharing our creations, taking our work beyond conventional performance spaces. - Reels of Resistance: film IS social justice activism for communities of color (Part One) (Tan Oak Room)

Art is social justice activism. Art promotes peace because creativity is a fundamentally non-violent process. We hope to inspire each workshop participant and give them successful strategies and tolls for using art to promote social justice. We also want queer women of color to understand the history of art as cultural resistance in communities of color.

Presenter: Gloria Ng is a North Oakland-based holistic health specialist, consultant, educator, and bodyworker. She is a Reiki Master Teacher and state-certified instructor in Reflexology since 2004.
Fire is an ancient tool for warmth, nourishment, purifying, healing, and renewal. This experiential workshop will be a process of giving and releasing that which we are complete with and welcoming space. - Poetry, The Road to Emancipation: the constant fight of Mexican intellectual women against the machismo (West Madrone Room)

In addition to a presentation on the cultural and historical context of this topic, the workshop will also include creative writing by the participants.
Please note: It is recommended that all the participants of this workshop understand Spanish very well. While the discussions can be in Spanish and English, the poems of Mexican writers will be read in the original language.

The young womyn of color from GirlSource (ages 15-19) will present their fierce voices/personal testimonials and research on issues of Military Recruitment and Employment for Undocumented Youth. Come be inspired by these young womyn and their fiery energy in making change and education for self-empowerment! Let this 1-hour workshop shed new light on how artistic business owners and potential business owners can utilize their creative energy to focus, define, and expand their businesses! Through interactive exercises, group coaching, and nurturing the creative self, we will begin to hone our skills so that we may see our businesses flourish.

Learn about how GABRIELA Network SF Bay Area has and continues to incorporate art making to engage and educate youth and non-politicized members of the community about issues that affect women all over the world. Participants in this workshop will participate in an ongoing art project that uses the symbol of the Star of Goddess to honor the stories of women activists.
